The original film was shot in 2001 up in the San Francisco Bay Area at the world famous “Comic Relief” shop and had a limited DVD release in 2005.  Stayed tuned to this space for more details as they become available.

That being said, I had an absolute blast at the show.  Well, not “at the show” as much as “around the show.”  You see, the number of people on the actual show floor was absolutely mind-numbing and walking around the exhibits was impossible unless you just jumped into the river of humanity and flowed along with it.  The couple of times I tried visiting booths or making purchases turned into a FUBAR situation that I quickly gave up and left. 

Now, outside of the show was another matter.  Meetings, gatherings and parties are the way to make the convention work.  Hanging out with other industry types is always a blast and I want to give a shout out to Eric Calderon of Wild Boar Media for a fun time.  The man knows how to put together a gathering.  Another tip of the hat goes to the folks at Adult Swim who held a cool party on Friday evening, which included some very tasty barbecue sandwiches…everyone knows the way to a fat man’s heart is through his stomach and the free eats were great.  I do wish I had stayed at the con longer than I did because I had a ton of fun hanging out with my buddy Shawn Granger and the May brothers, Jason & T.J.

The con is an absolute crazy mess, but it also a heck of a lot of fun and a must-attend event for anyone involved with genre entertainment.  If you haven’t been before, make sure to check it out next year (has anyone else heard the rumor about the con moving out of San Diego next year?)…just make sure to register early and get your hotel lined up at least 6 months in advance or you may just wind up staying in TJ!
